Calibre is a free and open source e-book library management application and is extremely easy to use. It is particularly useful for converting PDF documents to other formats and we recommend it be used to convert to either ePub or FB2.
We recommend using the default device profiles for input and output and convert to either ePub or FB2 format. The latter can sometimes provide more flexibility within QuokkaPads’ book reading software as it allows the justification and centring of pages.
Once a book is in these formats it will be automatically catalogued into your library so it is advisable to set your tag name (Metadata) at time of conversion e.g. Mystery, Romance etc.
Zipeg is a very easy way to unpack RAR or ZIP archive files. It is free and supports a multitude of formats including ZIP, RAR, 7z, ARJ, LHA, TGZ and TAR.
With its fingertip control of font size, page turn and full-screen mode, QuokkaPad is absolutely ideal for people with a print disability. We recommend that you read the following PDF issued by the Australian Copyright Council and contact us directly if you require any assistance.
People With a Disability: Copyright Issues - Information Sheet (PDF 303Kb).
"This information sheet explains the provisions in the Copyright Act which allow organisations helping people with a print disability or an intellectual disability to use copyright material without permission."
"Following the 2006 amendments, there are some specific exceptions to copyright infringement for personal use, which are not specifically directed to people with disabilities but may help people with disabilities to get better access to material in some cases."
